I have used aquarium heaters in the past, however, to keep yeast temperatures stable when fermenting beer in large 55 gallon kegs over the winter. I'd like to keep them instead. They worked like a charm, maintaining a more or less stable temperature within 1-2 degrees Fahrenheit. And I only paid $8 for it in 2014. This is a real disaster. It works when the water temperature exceeds the nominal and the temperature drops 10 degrees overnight, which is why I bought it. I thought I had a bad device until I read the other reviews but it seems almost everyone has trouble getting this device to run smoothly. Taking advice from other owners, turn it on its side and it runs for more than a few seconds before shutting down. I would never recommend this device to anyone who relies on it to keep animals alive that deserve more than that.
