I found these shears offered a little more control but not full control for all ages. I use them for kids who are experimenting with scissors for the first time or for low tone kids. In children with small hands, the fingers slip in the three-finger hole and a non-functional gripping pattern is created. For 1st-3rd graders these scissors are great, they fit well, the handle doesn't cramp and gives a little more leverage. Kids older than 3rd grade sometimes need scissors for full control due to the deep tone, but the tip is rounded and many kids in 4th grade and up prefer pointed scissors for a more precise cut. These are great learning scissors for younger students.
