Review on Noctua NF-A9 PWM: Premium Quiet 4-Pin Fan (92mm, Brown) - Efficient Cooling Solution by Brian Benford

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Blissful Sounds of Silence

This rating applies to both the 92mm and 80mm versions of this model, 4-wire units with motherboard speed control. If you, like many consumers, agree with the manufacturer's installed fans and look at such fans and their cost and say "aha". Ironically, I am/was an IT pro in the same situation. -me-down] for home use, the fan noise I hear at work [in a separate IT room] has become unacceptable in our home office. Did a little research and came across this brand. Granted, there are other brands/models and I'm a novice at this. I can summarize our findings by saying that my keen ears were wondering if the server was actually on. such a significant reduction in noise levels. Using the server's onboard hardware monitor, the fans are running at about 50% of their maximum for the case fan [that 92mm] and about 70% for the CPU fan [80mm] and the temperature drops have subsided along with the noise. They move a lot of air and the design of their blades combined with shock absorbing mounts makes them very quiet. The fans come with a short jumper that switches the fan speed to an even lower range if the maximum speed drops, and it works. quite well and reduces the fan noise to completely inaudible. With four 3.5" drives spinning [and heat] in the server case, I played it safe and brought the fans back to their original speed range with little difference in noise and no change in temperature. /cooling.Based on my experience, I can't rate this line highly enough.
