Review on Samsung BD-E5700 Smart WiFi Blu-ray Disc Player (Black) by James Pfettscher

Block defective? for TV & Video

Installation was quick and smooth. Netflix works like a charm. However, the disc playback component of this unit is TERRIBLE! It's so loud that it woke me up several times in the middle of the night. None of the BD Live functions work. I can't get into the disc menu at all. Chapter selection, setup menu and special functions are not available. My other 2 Samsung players (different models) don't have this problem. I guess I have a slacker coming back this week. The remote control is very compact. The buttons are close together and the Netflix button takes up the most space. It's pretty easy to accidentally type, which will take you instantly from a movie to the Netflix app, or from the Netflix app on the device's menu. A little annoying. The volume buttons are small and not intuitively located. Many functions are available directly from the remote control, which is a plus. The device itself is very small, suitable for those who are short on space. The design is simple, even cheap, but that's reflected in the MSRP. Overall, the lack of aesthetics, build quality, and 3D functionality make this device not worth its current price. I would suggest paying a little more for a device that offers the features just mentioned.

Pros
  • Samsung Smart Hub included
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
