Review on Enhanced 8-Inch IRWIN Vise-Grip Wire Stripping Tool with Wire Cutting Function (2078309) by Nick Atkinson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Nothing to say. The tool does its job as expected.

Bought to replace old loose dull tools in my bag. You do the work. Not surprising but certainly not disappointing, just what you would expect from a basic tool. I've never dealt with strippers, I tend to break strands, but the cutting edges are sharp enough to get the job done. The front handle of the pliers allows you to transmit quite a bit of force, although the close proximity to the puller teeth means you risk damaging the cutting edges, but at this point just grab the right pliers. The terminal crimp is pretty solid, but I had a few slips/loose crimps that came off the wire. The orientation of the terminals is important for this style of crimping, and when I try to orient them properly and crimp them twice, they tend to fit and connect well. The cutting edges seem to lose their shape when used on anything harder than copper wire, but they're not designed for tamping. Don't treat them like scissors and you'll be fine, mine are still sharp and cut 18 AWG and thinner wire well. The loop is good and tight, maybe too tight as I can't open it with one hand, but I take a strong loop every day instead of a loose, wobbly one. The hinge keeps the two sides straight and stable during stripping, cutting and crimping. I would personally say that overall they are good for light to medium use. If you use such a tool all day, you should look for heavier models. I keep them either on my desk or in my regular low voltage electronics bag and they have never let me down. Ideal for general electronics repairs as well as RPi and Arduino projects and prototyping.
