I have a 2008 Mazda 3 and the original gas cap was ripped off like yours causing the check engine light to come on repeatedly. This is the best replacement part, except you're spending a lot more for a Mazda-branded replacement cap, which isn't needed unless you're the kind of person who can somehow forget to screw the cap back on and drive away after boarding. You need that thin strip of plastic (which broke on mine anyway) to keep the cap attached to your machine when it's unscrewed.
