I installed them myself with a drill and #8 3/4 allen head screws. I built a solid oak coffee table and have long wanted to raise the top. I had to take extensive measurements to make sure everything was level and that the table top was level. I first attached the hinges to the inside of my coffee table box and then placed the board on top, making sure it was level and marking the screw points on the underside. I ended up removing the air lock (don't know what it's called) with a socket wrench and that made screwing it in from the bottom a lot easier. It's more durable than I thought it would be and it rises and falls very smoothly. These hinges support a 39" x 16" piece of solid oak and I can easily raise and lower it with one hand. I didn't have big problems with curling. I'm an amateur furniture maker so I'm very good at the finished product. Definitely a good buy! Just remember to measure the hinges before creating your design - I made that mistake and had to use more red oak when I realized these hinges didn't have enough clearance. Well you live and learn!
