I have had several different car barriers for dogs. From my first impressions I think this will be the last thing I should buy! I have a 70 lb Border/Golden mix who thinks he's a 10 lb lap dog and a 30 lb Australian Shepherd mix who thinks the same because of his ability to get in and out of things could well be a cat. Back to the barriers: there was a metal one with horizontal bars (awfully annoying as it rattles every time the car moves and my dog could stick his head in and gasp and drool in the back seat of my jeep). $80 wasted. I had a net with elastic ropes to secure it. They sag, and no matter how tight you tighten and secure them under the seats and over the headrests, the dog can still get through and under them between the seats. Completely inefficient. Even though they are cheap, they are still a waste of money. Don't bother either. I also have hammocks that go through the back seat and attach to the front seat headrests and rear seat headrests. They perfectly protect the seat, but they do not prevent the dog from jumping into the car and getting into the front seat. So, Paws & Claws Luxury Barrier: I ordered this special barrier last week, just before last weekend when my little dog decided to eat a box full of donuts from the front seat as well as chew on the plastic cap of my shaker bottle. to eat my morning breakfast. Needless to say that after all that in a day when this barrier arrived on Monday I was itching to try it! I installed it on my 3/4 ton pickup and unfortunately part of the velcro broke immediately when I stretched the barrier : b/c you have to pull very hard to get the bars in the sleeves and it to make it durable, but I think I can fix that velcro. There are lots of velcro straps holding the bars in place and they seem very strong so I installed them anyway. It attaches easily and securely to the headrest and underside of the seats. The straps are adjustable, with metal said to have teeth so it holds the straps securely, while other barriers I've had the straps keep slipping off and then the barrier sags. My dogs couldn't get under it, although one of them tried to figure out how to get under it. The net seems very strong! Not just a fabric: it appears to be plastic treated, so it's pretty durable. Much better than other barriers I have ordered. I have a 56 in the wide barrier and it works well in my full size pickup truck with bucket seats. Hooray! Now I don't have to worry about my dogs getting into the front seats with dirty paws or eating food or drinks I left in the front seat. It looks like this will also hold most of the hair in the back seat and I covered the seats so it's a lot easier to keep my truck clean from the front. I think I'll see how this one continues to work and then probably order a smaller one for my car.
