Review on EVALD Dowel Jig Kit: Create Invisible Shelves with Floating Shelf Brackets & Hidden Brackets by Adam Clemons

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The jig works well, ditch the included drill bit and buy a 12 1/2 " drill bit before proceeding.

After reading so many conflicting reviews on here I thought I'd share mine Experiences. As others have noted, the included auger bit may not drill your holes as easily as you would hope.I worked with this for about 30 minutes and drilled a single 10" deep hole in my European oak shelf before using the standard twist bit that I bought broke when I needed it.It changed everything and since then everything has been very simple. When using the template on wood it is very important to insert it little by little and then withdraw the drill completely to to remove chips and reduce excessive heat build-up, and it will eventually take forever to drill a hole - o.o the worse, damaging the wood. Just take it slow and you'll be fine. Also, it goes without saying, but pre-drilling holes for the screws, I read in another review said the screws were junk and broken. I can't imagine how that could have happened, but yes, use a self-centering drill or similar tool to mark your positions. "Depth and you won't have a problem. I like the design of the threaded jig compared to the G in my previous homemade jigs. Provides a strong connection that won't slip. I hung an 11" x 12" deep shelf with 6's Clamps and I've had no alignment issues with this jig, which in my past experience has been much more difficult to achieve.Use this jig for any floating shelf I will make in the future.
