Review on ๐Ÿถ K9 Sport Sack: Large Adjustable Dog Carrier Backpack - Air | Charcoal Grey by Angela Rodriguez

Good concept but fell apart after first use and wasn't very comfortable

We were so excited to try this on our recent hike/trekking, so much so that we pre-ordered a custom name patch on the manufacturer's website ordered even received the package. We have a standard dachshund with a 21 inch torso and 28 pounds so we bought a size up as recommended. The description states that the large size fits dogs up to 30 pounds in weight and its torso . While the plus size technically suited him, I wonder if they've ever tested a dog at that end of the weight spectrum. Remember that unless you are a super handyman, loading a 28-pound dog is definitely NOT one person's work. ! You can't do it yourself - it definitely needs 2 people who are fully involved to load the dog into the backpack and then put it on the back of the stretcher. We've watched all the manufacturer's videos on how to properly load and carry your dog, but they only demonstrate it with small dogs, which is why it looks so easy - it's NOT. Our dog seemed perfectly content and comfortable when we put him in the backpack. , but it is not so convenient for one person. Once on a human's back, our dog continued to lean as it adjusted (see photo). His body continues to curve slightly as you can see in the photos. This made it very uncomfortable for a human as the weight load was never evenly distributed and this pack lacks a hip belt or any type of back padding. The materials from which the shoulder straps are made are a fragile wide mesh and represent a weak point in the construction. They really should be made of ripstop nylon or some other more durable material. On our dog, the stitching on the mesh portion of the shoulder straps began to unravel the first time we used it (see photo). There's also no lining and padding, and no waist belt either, which would have made stabilization that much more comfortable. Loading and hiking with a 28 lb dog. We have a few simple backpacks from REI that have these characteristics and they are common in other similar items (like baby carriers) so I don't know why they weren't included in this design. Real-life tests on dogs of different lengths and weights. Disappointed it didn't work for us and our dog but if you have a small dog it might be fine. Unfortunately we are returning ours as it wasn't sturdy enough to hike with our dog. We're likely to modify something ourselves that has key comfort features like a padded back and waist belt.

Pros
  • Cool product
Cons
  • Something different
