I have glass on my table, so discolouring the wood isn’t an issue, but I don’t like the way dished clink on the glass. I prefer cloth placemats, but I also prefer something that doesn’t need washed after every meal. These are an excellent compromise. They don’t feel like the thick padded plastic placemats of my childhood. They can easily be carried to the sink and rinsed off, or even soaked if necessary. I’m not sure how much heat protection they would provide. Probably adequate for a plate of warm food, but I would be hesitant to place a hot dish or pan on it. I anticipate these having a long life.
