This was my second attempt to find a good stand for my small (11-12 inch) laptop to use as a lap table when I don't have a desk or table. I have neck and shoulder issues so I wanted something that would hold my laptop at eye level to use with my wireless keyboard. The reason this stand was better than the other two options I considered is that it is more portable and versatile: Portable: This stand is the lightest of any foldable laptop stand I could find. or something like that because it's a lot smaller than other coasters with a similar design, which I find ridiculous. tall unless you have a very large laptop. In addition to a larger, similarly designed stand, I also considered a foldable DJ-style portable laptop stand. Although this stand doesn't fold up as compactly as a DJ-style laptop stand Style, I chose because the SE is much lighter yet folds flat, a handy size and shape to fit in my coffee shop or library bag. Versatility: I also prefer this stand to a DJ style laptop stand because it can be conveniently used as a lap table on a sofa or bed as its legs are on either side of your knees. The feet would probably sit comfortably on your own feet if you had wider knees. Coffee, food or books are neatly placed directly under the laptop. Cons: The main cons I've found are pretty minor for my own use: for some reason the top isn't vented, unlike many larger versions of the stand of the same style. If the metal top was perforated it would be lighter and especially useful for those with computer overheating issues (my laptop doesn't overheat and the metal can be thin enough to still help a little with overheating issues as it lifts the computer up in the air) . The second downside is that unlike some other similar (larger) coasters, this one also doesn't have a protective lip around the rim to prevent slipping and the surface feels pretty slick to the touch. . I don't plan on using the stand at an angle very often and my laptop has rubber feet that keep it in place so I can get by without it, but it might be worth considering if you use it at an angle want. The last difference isn't really a downside, but it's a foot fewer than the larger models, so converting a sit-down desk into a stand-up desk is probably pointless. If you're smart and can get the parts, it looks like you could just add another set of legs. As for me, I'm willing to give up because I need a portable, lightweight stand, and this one is already large enough to be at eye level when seated. If you are 6ft or more it may not be big enough for you if you are sitting if you want to sit upright without craning your neck and have a very small laptop like mine. This stand fits my 11-12 inch laptop and will probably work up to a 15 inch or so.
