Review on Chrome Mr. Gasket Oil Dipstick for Small Block Chevy (SBC) 1965-1979 by Jun Merritt

Worked great with a little modification

I installed this in my SBC. To do this I had to grind about 1/16 inch to get it up to the bubble. I had to sand, possibly because of the block I used for my build. An oil pan was initially installed on the engine. the dipstick that I discarded along with the non-original oil pan. So the guide tube in the dipstick hole in the block was never pushed in all the way. The guide tube started slightly less than flush with the top of the dipstick hole in the block. I had to push it into place with a punch and a hammer. into a block. It fits snug and tight, so make sure it's oriented the right way before you hammer it. Also, make sure you have a piece of aluminum to use between the pipe and the hammer to soften the blow, otherwise you'll remember the top of the pipe. I really like how tight it fits. Some people have complained that it was made too big and they had to reduce the diameter, but it's purposely made so that you have to push/drive it in.

Pros
  • Reliable and durable
Cons
  • Protection
