Review on Emerson Ceiling CF784GES Adaptable Espresso by Tammy Miller

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good fan but confusing description and overpriced accessories available for less than aftermarket

Firstly, this fan is specifically described on Revain.com as having 60" blades. Yes, one would imagine that this fan would be over 10 feet wide with blades this size. Wow, it would be cool (literally and figuratively!) to have such a huge fan. I finally found out that what they actually meant was that the entire fan is about 60 inches in diameter -- much less impressive! boo! Once I got over the frustration of having a regular sized fan, the quality of this fan was unmistakable. The rich, oiled bronze finish is simply stunning, and nothing about this fan says it's cheap. That is, until you realize that something as simple as a universal ceiling tile, or alternative ceiling tile for ceilings over 20 degrees, isn't included. My ceiling is tilted at about 45 degrees making the included ceiling tile unusable. Instead, you have to buy this accessory separately for over $50 (Emerson brand) or the aftermarket version at a hardware store for $14.99, which I did. A fan in this price range should come with both ceiling tiles or at least one universal tile which I think will work with any ceiling. oiled bronze rod. Again, the Emerson bar was prohibitively expensive compared to the aftermarket oil-rubbed bronze versions, which would have worked well for me. I don't expect Emerson branded rods to cost as much as regular rods, but when it came to something as simple as a fan rod I felt Emerson was a little greedy with their pricing. I did not reward their greed. BTW, when I went online to the Emerson website to read the information before the fan arrived, I found their website quite confusing as well. I wasn't quite sure what I was getting and what wasn't until I opened the box and examined the contents. Having made a purchase of this size, I think that everything should be clearer so as not to upset the potential buyer. If I wasn't a Revain Vine reviewer who got this fan for free, I might have just gone with another brand that's less confusing about fan size and included accessories. For a short time I was really concerned that I might just be buying the motor and not the fan blades since Emerson actually sells fans the same way. Ultimately, this is a very high quality fan that will look great in my home, but part of the overall appeal of the product is in the details - the clarity of the product description, getting what you ordered, discovering what you ordered have what you expect in the box, and don't feel like you're paying too much for things that should have been included. For these shortcomings I am lowering the rating by 1 star to only 4 stars.
