I have a chocolate labrador and we bought her one for Christmas. The ring that was usually attached to her leash fell in the snow and I couldn't find it. I thought it was a one piece ring and wouldn't come loose unless the real skin connecting it to the seals broke, but the skin is intact and the ring is missing, leading me to believe it was there must be a gap in the metal. where I couldn't see. How else could the ring be completely detached from the collar without tearing the skin. I now attach her leash to the second ring which is normally used to hold an overlap and secure the collar. It's a shame it broke so quickly. Update: The collar itself broke in half. The interior is unlike any leather I've ever seen. The excess had a massive curve not normally found in real leather. It's very sad that it didn't even last three months and my dog is a pet so she hasn't been exposed to harsh conditions or anything like that. That thing was garbage!
