This review is for a new Nikon AE lens that I bought in August 2012. Full screen on DX. Stellar Optics The image is less compressed at the corners than most fisheye lenses. Available cons: The focus ring is not properly adjusted. There is no information in the manual about the use of the new AE chip. If you read other reviews of this lens (and the older non-AE version) you'll keep seeing complaints that the lens produces soft images, or - from more tech-savvy users - that the focus ring isn't set properly. I can confirm that both statements were true for my lens when it arrived. I've noticed that the lens produces smooth images at infinity and that the focus detection indicators in the camera's viewfinder always show a right arrow (never a dot or left arrow) for distant objects. So I set up a high-contrast target three feet from the lens and photographed it, setting the focus ring to each of the eight distance markings on the focus ring (infinity, 10.5 feet, 3 feet). , 2', 1.5', 1.2' and 1'). I have the sharpest image at infinity. If you google you can find instructions on how to adjust the focus ring setting on the lens. I adjusted it so that the setting previously marked "infinity" is now 3 feet. It's not hard to do if you have hands. As a result, my photos of distant subjects seem to have become much clearer, and the camera now shows a green dot to indicate it's also focusing. My other complaint is that the lens has a new AE chip that allows it to interact with Nikon's autofocus. exposure system, but you won't know it from the instructions that came with the lens. They just haven't updated the manual for new electronics. I found a video on You-Tube about the lens that mentions setting the aperture to f/22 to activate the AE interface (and that seems to work) but there is *nothing** in* *everything* on the map above AE chip. Instructions included with the lens. So I believe Samyang makes the components for a damn good fisheye lens, and then the various brands that sell them (Rokinon, Bower, Vivitar, etc.) make half of it. I had to assemble and pack them. But if you're willing to tweak the final assembly a bit, you can get a damn good lens at an amazing price.
