No way to get it off except cutting it. We had to cut these brand new straps to get them off. I bought four and the first two are already ruined. I read the instructions but could not tell from the diagram what they meant. I guess I would have had to somehow hold the free end in my hand while also having to use both hands to work the ratchet. There needs to be a guard or clip to keep the free end from feeding back through. Otherwise these are good sturdy straps and ratchets.
