Finik, did he die after 2 years and 4 months? I expected MUCH better from Samsung.

So I had a DVD player that I've owned since the late 90's and used until 2016. Of course he only played records, but he still worked. My TV is a 2012 Sharp Aquos. I understand that TVs and other accessories with apps like YouTube, Netflix etc usually don't have the processing power to run those apps and my TV definitely got sluggish with Netflix. Samsung BD. -J5700, I thought it was a good choice. I bought it in late 2016 so I could switch from DVD to Blu-Ray if I wanted and using YouTube and Netflix would probably be smoother than my TV. It was - when Samsung was well behaved. I've only used it for YouTube, Netflix and disc playback. The first nitpick is that there is no power indicator anywhere. It is not clear whether the device is switched on or off. It's a minor thing, but very annoying. If the rest of the device was solid and reliable, I wouldn't pay attention to it. This device was anything but durable and reliable. When playing discs or using Netflix, the screen goes blank from time to time. The audio continued, and then, after a few seconds, the display turned on again. Even after several firmware updates, this problem persisted and then mysteriously disappeared about a year ago. The disappearance of the problem did NOT coincide with another update. Only when using Netflix did it completely stop from time to time - turned off, the screen went blank, then restarted, and after a few seconds the home screen appeared. If that were the case, it would definitely happen 2-5 times more often if I tried to keep watching what I watch on Netflix. This problem was intermittent and sometimes didn't happen for weeks, but when it did it was a real pain. Both "video disappears for a few seconds" and "spontaneous reboot" could sometimes be resolved by disconnecting the device from the network for a while. a minute and reconnected, but that wasn't a reliable solution. Two days ago he did something stranger. Usually when I paused Netflix it would stop and eventually go into attraction/screensaver mode. Well I had a long phone call and stopped what I was looking at. Oddly enough, it didn't act as an attraction/welcome screen, it just stopped where I left it. When I resumed work, the device was not responding. Pressed the home button and took me back home and I was able to go to YouTube. I then tried to return to Netflix, but this time it got stuck at the Netflix logo, which is what normally appears during Netflix initialization. It was a hard lock and I couldn't get the device to respond. Nothing appeared on the remote control and neither the power nor the eject button on the device worked. Luckily there was no hard drive in the system at the time. I unplugged it and plugged it back in. I heard the faint sound of a disc motor. starts spinning for a second and then stops. The screen remained blank. I tried two or three more times. Exactly the same behavior. I learned that you can hard reset your device if you press and hold the eject button on your device for 8 seconds - DURING the boot screen. It's useless if the device doesn't boot to the home screen at all. To be honest I was expecting this device to last MUCH longer than it actually does, but should we expect that from Samsung now? This thing didn't even last 2 1/2 years. Big, big disappointment.
