Worked great with the Chelsea network adapter in my pfsense box

At the time of writing this review I was a Comcast Gigabit plan user. They recently lowered the speed to 1200Mbps. Given the 20% redundancy that Comcast typically offers, that means I should theoretically be able to get around 1400Mbps with the right modem. I ended up buying a Motorola MB8611 as it has a 2.5Gb RJ45 port. Motorola MB8611 -> Cat6 patch cord -> Wiitek transceiver -> Chelsio NIC in my pfsense box. Went like clockwork. My pfsense box "sees" a 10GB connection even though there is a 2.5GB connection on the other end of the Wiitek transceiver. It's going to be hot, so you know you're in for it. Ventilate the room well if it bothers you.

Pros
  • Network transceiver
Cons
  • No automatic
