Good price, works but not perfect

Didn't work with Intel X710-DA2 when connected to a 1Gbps switch. It happens there, but the bandwidth is very asymmetric, with a full gigabyte available in one direction, something ridiculously low, like a few megabits, in the other. But it works well in Mikrotik Switch. Runs a little hot. Both the Intel NIC and Mikrotik see it as a 10Gb/s transceiver no matter what speed it ends up running at, which can be confusing for some. It is also defined as fiber, not copper. Something to be aware ofโ€ฆ

Works great in my Unifi UXG-PRO

Works great for connecting my Motorola MS8611 cable modem to my UXG-PRO at 2.5Gbps. I had to buy this as most SPF modules only support 1.25/10 and these new odd 2.5/5 ball speeds aren't usually supported. Can't verify if it supports 5GB/s but 2.5GB works fine. Does the router register the connection as 10Gb/s, perhaps because Unifi hasn't added 2.5/5 support to its displays? I'm just not sure why I'm bothering with 2.5 when 10 is so common and available.

Works with Peplink on network transceivers

This works well in my Peplink SD 24 switch connected to an Asus Maximus XIII Hero Intel I225-V network controller. I get a full 2.5Gbps over a 15m Category 5e ethernet cable running through the attic and walls. Simultaneously copying large files from 3 other computers in the house with 1Gb/s connections easily uses the full 2.5 bandwidth. Both the switch port and the client NIC are set to autonegotiate. Everything else doesn't work. The client reports 2.5 and the switch 10 Gbit/s. The actualโ€ฆ

Doesn't work in Netgear XS708T switch with Intel I225-V 2.5Gbps NIC

Was able to extract full speed from Intel I225-V v3 NIC. Used in a Netgear XS708T switch with 2 SFP+ ports. Throughput tests with iPerf3 show that the speed is asymmetrical. The speed from the Intel card is a full 2.5 Gbit/s and the speed to the Intel card is less than 500 Mbit/s. Technical support has attempted to change almost all buffer sizes and offload settings in the Intel NIC driver, including using jumbo frames. Nothing worked and I ended up having to send it back. You may have betterโ€ฆ

Worked great with the Chelsea network adapter in my pfsense box

At the time of writing this review I was a Comcast Gigabit plan user. They recently lowered the speed to 1200Mbps. Given the 20% redundancy that Comcast typically offers, that means I should theoretically be able to get around 1400Mbps with the right modem. I ended up buying a Motorola MB8611 as it has a 2.5Gb RJ45 port. Motorola MB8611 -> Cat6 patch cord -> Wiitek transceiver -> Chelsio NIC in my pfsense box. Went like clockwork. My pfsense box "sees" a 10GB connection even thoughโ€ฆ

Fantastic transceiver, works with my UDM Pro/Xfinity router combo

This very inexpensive transceiver has worked great so far. Yes, it does get a little warm (36ยฐC/96ยฐF), but that's common across many brands. It connects from the Xfinity modem to the UDM Pro's SPF+ WAN port via a 2.5Gbps Eth+ port. The router reports a connection speed of 2.5 Gbps. My current plan is up to 1200 megabits per second and I've gotten down to almost 1400. I have gradually upgraded my home network infrastructure to support 10G connections in anticipation of fiber service coming toโ€ฆ
