Review on πŸ’Ž BH 19394 Twin Diamond by Lokesh Das

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I was very impressed by the price

First of all I want to tell you that I didn't expect much from this diamond stone. When I bought this my main reason for buying it was that I needed something to hold my other sharpening stone. Many sharpening stone holders are already in the $15-$20 range, so I looked for $5 more, I had nothing to lose by trying this. From the packaging I could see that the diamonds were evenly distributed on both sides. panel, although one corner of one side was slightly missing the coating (about 1/8 inch, not enough to tell a difference in performance). There happen to be a few extra diamonds set into the sides of the stone, but the edges are flat to a straight edge so I can't complain. The stones were able to smooth the back of the chisel and kept the blade sharp Enough to make hair shave, but the 1000 grit side isn't fully incorporated yet. At the moment I would say that the 1000 grit side leaves sanding marks closer to the 500-600 grit, but I expect it to get better with continued use. I was pleasantly surprised that they don't wear out right away and if the 1000 grit wears out as much as I've seen DMT diamond stones wear out then I think this will end up being my choice for setting up new bits/planers could. I am currently changing from Big Horn #400 to Big Horn #1000 to DMT D8E 8" Dia-Sharp Continuous Diamond - Extra Fine (whereas earlier I changed from DMT D8C 8" Dia-Sharp Continuous Diamond Coarse to DMT Extra Fine am The grooves in the Big Horn stones allow for very quick cutting when wet (I use Windex) and are easy to clean up after a sharpening session I would recommend this to anyone looking for a starting stone to set up a tool and will updated information provide on how the #1000 side breaks down after prolonged use.Working exceptionally well, performance degrades due to uneven wear and particle build up as the diamonds remove material. My first problem occurred after using the stone for about 3 months Most of my jobs involved quickly removing material from a warped waterstone, so I pulled it out & nd started smoothing it out. The stone did what I expected, but when I tried to remove the stone I found the task was more difficult than expected. Most of the material is washed out during cleaning, but other parts are held in place by growths. I've tried several diamond cleaners, comet cleaners, rust removers/degreasers, and pretty much anything I could find. While the stones did recover a bit, sharpening in those spots has always felt a little bad ever since, and while the ruler still reads flat, I can feel very little difference between the three stones. I've included images of the sharpening patterns that now appear on the stone and have changed how both sides work. Bottom line: if you intend to use it to smooth water stones, keep it for that purpose only. If you intend to use it to sharpen a tool, try not to use it to smooth too many stones. That flaw aside, diamonds wear out over time, and the 1000 grit side is noticeably thinner than the 400 grit side. I still use them regularly, but mostly for beginner work, which I smooth out more on my other stones . Since the stone is still working and the wear issue is probably my fault I am giving it a high rating but am lowering it to 4 stars out of 5.
