HDMI is better in a way because it connects and works. However, you need to understand your BR player and AVR for it to work. If this is not the case, you may not hear any sound through this cable and through HDMI. I had to fiddle with Sony's confusing controls for a while to make sure the sound was identical. I'm keeping it because I'm hoping to get a dedicated CD player and use it for that.
