The drive is new but is NOT sold as advertised and is an OEM drive with seller warranty, NOT WD.

**NOTE. My photos were taken a few hours after the ride had run for a while. When I first tested the drive it didn't work for hours! The first thing I would like to say is that this drive is advertised as a retail drive but is actually an OEM drive. This is not normally a problem, except that with a Western Digital (WD) OEM drive, the warranty now goes to the OEM and not WD. The OEM in this case is the seller (to me they are Hard Drive Geeks). The only physical difference on the disc is that the Western Digital label at the top has been replaced with a white label. I gave my review 3 stars because this clearly shows a retail drive but is an OEM drive instead. The main problem is that Western Digital does NOT guarantee this drive as it is an OEM drive. If your drive has a problem, you MUST contact your dealer. In most cases this is normal, but it all depends on whether your seller actually stands by their warranty. However, the seller MUST maintain the same warranty period or longer. Since WD guarantees this for 2 years, the OEM drive seller must do the same. The decision to purchase this disc should be yours. Most hard drive warranties don't primarily cover data recovery (unless you have high-end NAS drives), so I don't expect most people to call on the warranty even if there's an issue. I assume most people turn to a data recovery service. So, long story short, if you're worried about getting a retail drive with a retail warranty, I would check the manufacturer's website for purchasing options, otherwise the OEM version of the drive was brand new (to me) and working at the expected level for a 5400rpm spinning drive and it's great for my needs as an additional drive with an SSD cache on top to speed things up a bit. with a "white label" at the top in place of Western Digital branding. The disk must be new (install Crystal Disk Info to verify) and have no usage time. Western Digital does not guarantee White Label/OEM discs, the guarantee is provided to the seller. At the same time, the seller is obliged to comply with the same or longer warranty period, which in my case was at least 2 years. This drive performs as expected and is the same physical drive as the retail version for all intensive work, just without the WD branding.
