Our old dog fell down our wooden steps this week and I ordered them because they said they didn't have any harmful (ie leaving marks) sticky streaks on their back. Our house is old and I really didn't want to damage the wood finish. The pieces of carpet arrived and we fitted them straight away: they had no crease in the middle at all (the message said they could be folded in the package). We took off the backing and the kids and I put it on the steps: the backing is sticky but not sticky. So when my 5 year old put them on a little crooked we just lifted them up and re-taped. . Now the dog can safely walk up and down on its old wobbly legs and slippery claws. There was no chemical smell from them which I thought and I think this is a great product especially for the price. They offer some softness and padding but aren't thick so you generally trip over them. In fact, the brown matches the color of the wood on the stairs and they fit in well. I hope they hold up for the many, many wild hikes we take up and down the stairs!
