Wait until the child can walk very well. Also in the description it is written somewhere that it is suitable for 3 years old, but even on the shortest handle I think a 3 year old can have problems. I suggest age 4 is best to start with this scooter. The handle is removable and adjustable for children up to 10 years old (and not up to 12 years old as indicated in the materials). The scooter will weigh up to 110 pounds but that's really heavy for this board and I'm not suggesting more than an 80 pound kid can do it.
