Good price but slower than expected

I bought this product a few months ago for my first home NAS. I installed two server-grade HGST Ultrastar 7K3000 drives in a RAID 1 configuration. The goal was to save some old TV shows and movies for streaming through Plex. First, I needed to transfer about 2TB of data to the NAS. The fastest transfer over a wired gigabit network connection was 38 MB/s. I'm not sure what the bottleneck was, and it may not have been the device itself. Overall, my experience with the Terramaster UI was pleasant. I never had a problem setting it up and it had no problem recognizing my hard drives. Plex was very easy to set up on a NAS - you go to the App Market and install it. I've had a few moments where the app was disabled in the NAS UI and had to re-enable it (I didn't lose any settings, but it was disabled without my doing). Once the data was in place, it was time to watch movies! I turned on Plex and was ready to go. I have a video file in 4k with HDR and DTS-MA audio (uncompressed). I was looking at Roku which doesn't support DTS-MA so Terramaster had to re-encode the audio to 5.1. I've never been able to get a stable video feed this way, so I guess Terramaster just couldn't do it. I can view videos normally on other devices that support DTS-MA decoding (Plex app on computers, Apple TV with Infuse). Buy. If you're looking for something to store your files, this will likely fit your needs. I wouldn't rely on transcoding 4k video or accompanying audio. I was able to circumvent the downsides by selling my Roku and using an Apple TV with Infuse and avoiding LAN transcoding.
