The original pistons that hold the tailgate in place eventually reached the point where they just couldn't support the weight of the tailgate properly. So the door only opened 3/4 and I kept hitting my head! Swapping the plungers now opens the door fully and no headbanging! However, installation was a bit tricky as there is a clamping metal clip at the end of the piston that needs to be partially removed before installing the new piston ball joint. Once you understand how to do it successfully, installation is a breeze.
