So not sure what the suction is but the velcro works great as long as you clean the surface you are sticking it to before you put it on tighten (I recommend an alcohol wipe). ). It blocks the sun well and also makes a great window screen if you have kids who like to throw their toys out the window. It's a little hard to see, but not enough to bother me while driving.
