Review on Enhanced Aurifil 2250 Cotton Thread: A Comprehensive Update by Karla Richter

Perfect Off-White

Aurifil is the best premium thread for quilting and machine sewing. I was looking for white, but without a light, bleached white and without a very light shade of beige. THIS IS THE PERFECT OFF WHITE as it is a true white but without the harsh brightness I was looking for to best combine with the lightest shade of the fabric. For the price of this premium yarn I expect better color choices and it pays off. After years of using various brands of the much cheaper 40 weight polyester, I finally gave up and started using the smooth Aurifil 50 weight. Cotton because of its strong and lint-free fine thread. This is also great for reels as you wind a lot more on a single spool than you would on a 40 watt nylon. Ultimately, this affects the overall quality of your finished quilt. As with my other large Omni 40 WT Poly Cones (made by Superior of about the same size, about 6000 yards, for about $17), the Omni is perfect for general sewing (bags, clothing, etc.) as it is very is durable and long lasting. durable and relatively lint-free. I would strongly recommend buying at least 2 spool holders, one marked 40 weight. Poly and the other 50 wt. aurifil. I hope this answers any questions about thread selection for quilters and anyone else sewing bags or clothing. Yes, you can use 40W. Poly for all sewing (if you're on a budget) but it's really worth the extra money for the Aurifil 50 wt. while quilting. In addition, buying large AuriFil cones at an altitude of more than 6000 meters is much more convenient and profitable.
