I'm tired of keeping filters next to my coffee cups in my bedside table. I liked it when I received it, but because it's made of bamboo, it's a little lighter than I wanted. In the picture it looks a bit darker than it really is, but nothing special. Since it is varnished I had to sand it down to color it darker. Again, this is really easy if you're just a little crafty or creative! Once I found the right color for the stain I applied several coats of clear coat with a light sanding in between and the finish was nice, smooth and dark. One note: the bamboo didn't seem to absorb the stain too deeply, so I had to darken it a bit, but rubbing off the excess resulted in a nice, warmer mid-tone that I like. I tried a few test patches on the underside to get the right tone.
