Edelbrock 2121 intake manifold for Ford

Bought this header to replace a Holley Street Dominator with a Ford 289CID. In general, the casting is about what you would expect from an investment casting process, and it's perfectly workable. I was disappointed with the processing. The three drilled and threaded holes for the carburetor studs were the correct depth. The fourth hole was too deep and penetrated the inlet pipe. The end of the hole was straddled with pieces of aluminum that chipped off when I rubbed them. My guess is that the manifold won't leak at this point once the carburetor bolts are properly installed, but this gross hole in the manifold air duct will disrupt normal airflow through the manifold with unnecessary turbulence in that area. The three regular holes are smooth on the inside of the intake manifold. Since I'm going to connect this inlet to the heads, I'm going to mix up some aluminum shavings with JB Weld and fill this hole from the inside. A simple repair but better quality control on the processing machine and more thorough quality control would have allowed this manufacturing defect to be detected. The car took a couple of weeks to put together and I'm happy to report that this manifold really woke up my SBF 289. Linear throttle response is MUCH better than the Holly header, and overall handling is much better. Good response in all four gears - I should have replaced this manifold years ago!

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Expensive
