I bought this to make a 3-1/2" hole in 4 pieces of good quality plywood for my router lift project. It worked, but I strongly recommend the following: clamp the workpiece and use a drill press if you can. I also had to drill each piece of the 3/4" layer separately and then line up the holes and glue all four pieces together. I had to move slowly so the cut was free of sawdust and so the blade didn't cool. The drill was absolutely necessary to level the cut and prevent the saw from dragging along the cutting edge. I really wouldn't recommend cutting more than an inch thick. The saw comes with a center drill bit. So if you're cutting deeper than an inch need to cut one side and then the other with the center hole.
