Simple, no frills rice cooker

I love this rice cooker. It's simple, straightforward, and gets the job of cooking rice done. We got one of those fancy 10 button rice cookers that I now only use to make oatmeal. We don't want to wait 45 minutes for our rice. We went back to our homemade 6 cup national rice cooker. It works fine, but I'm tired of looking at this huge thing on my desk when we're making 3 cups max. The size of this rice cooker is roughly equivalent to a 1.5 liter slow cooker. I make 3 cups of white rice + 3.25 cups of water. I don't see water splashes as a problem. I really appreciate the simplicity of this design. More complex versions of the rice cooker require you to use the correct button to fill the correct pipe with water depending on the food being cooked. I also sometimes make a white rice and quinoa mix to mix it up. I make 2 cups of white rice/quinoa + 2.5 cups of water. Want more fluffy mixed rice? Add a little more water next time. The rice cooker shuts off when it runs out of liquid, which I think gives more flexibility and control. This model doesn't come with a steam generator, but with a little creativity you can still do it. All you need is a colander, mesh basket, wire rack that doesn't touch the bottom of the pot. I have a stainless steel basket that I bought from Muji years ago that sits perfectly flush with the bin. I have steamed cabbage, carrots, green beans, sweet potatoes. I tend to overcook them because I'm making them for my 14 month old. But again, you can make a note of how much water to add and/or use the instruction manual as a guide to get the texture you want. I only wish I had bought this sooner! Update 11/01/2020: Still working, I've also boiled whole eggs in it, this is the best and easiest way to get the eggshells off right away. Just make sure you poke a small hole before inserting them. Daiso sells an egg piercer for $1.50. When there's no one around, there's always Revane!
