Review on πŸ”’ Enhanced Ford Power Tailgate Lock: Pop & Lock PL8250 (for OEM Lock-equipped Tailgates) by Chris Hodges

That should be the standard for high-end pickups

My son has a Ford F150 Platinum with a rear view camera in the trunk handle. I have a Dodge Ram 3500 also with a backup camera in the trunk. Boot theft has become a problem here. I used some containment methods on both pickups. I put a tie around the right side hinge which has a slot that allows the rear door to be lifted and removed. I cut off the head of the set screw. We also kept the back doors locked. It's a pain when we have to lower the tailgates to load stuff. On my truck, the key is in the wireless door lock remote control and is not easy to get. Also, there's always a chance I'll forget to put it back in when I'm done unloading the bed. The Pop & Lock power tailgate lock is what car manufacturers should have installed on the tailgate in the first place. It is excellent! I installed both trucks. The instructions are pretty easy to understand. A person who has never had to remove a panel or zip tie on a car's existing wiring may not have much to do the first time. In any case, you can find videos on the Internet that show you step by step how to install this drive. This took about 3 hours. The hardest part was connecting the wires to the matching pair of door lock wires. There are two pairs that you can connect with. One for the driver's door and one for the other doors. Coincidentally I got the pair for the driver's door that I wanted. Unlock the driver's door and trunk at the touch of a button. Works perfectly! I know that whenever I lock my truck doors, my back door also locks. And it opens every time I open the driver's door. Will this protect your back door from theft? No. Even a factory-fitted tailgate lock does not do this. Any thief determined enough need only unscrew the access panel on the inside of the tailgate and manually unlock the tailgate. One way to deter theft is to always lean against a wall or pole so the tailgate cannot be lowered, which would deter theft. Another thought is to replace some of the torx head screws with some anti-theft screws that require a special bit to remove. Until then, I can rest easier knowing that my truck and son's tailgates are always locked when we lock our cars. Update: I recently had to rent a truck. 2016 Dodge Ram SLT and tailgate locks with doors!
