With the arrival of spring it's time to clean the wood stove pipes. This means a complete dismantling of all pipes and the removal of all kiln cement. I drove to our local HD looking for a tube of Rutland Furnace Cement only to find out they no longer stock it on the shelves and have just moved it online. In this case I searched a bit on Revain and found a whistle cheaper than HD so I bought it here. What I really like about this oven putty is that you can remove it with a dull chisel or screwdriver when it's time to clean it off after the season. The tube is easy to use and more than enough for a couple of seasons. A few things I should mention about this tube is that......you have to cut a small hole in the tip (about 1/8 inch), anything bigger you lose a lot due to the pressure being pushed out will if you don't take the pressure off every time. Time after you pull the trigger... also the initial first pull of the trigger will squeeze out a small amount of liquid so be prepared... camouflages anything you don't want the cement to stick to (and makes the job a lot cleaner )....use gloves, this thing will turn your fingers black....extremely helpful to have a damp paper towel or rag for immediate cleaning....most importantly, you MUST start a small fire to heat cure the cement .
