For a while I've been trying to attach crimp terminals to screws for my 16 AWG wire. Although I've had very short connectors, they had a tough time getting the connector back together and breaking a few wires. A normal crimp connector will not work. Inside the plug is a piece of plastic that squeezes the wire tightly into a U-shape when closed. I had to cut the leads and just wrap the wire around the screws. It was a good fit at 16 gauge. I don't think anything else would fit as well. I think the design is bad.
