At first my two little puppies couldn't chew it. I caught her trying. I often leave it because it's so difficult to fold that it's frustrating. I tried several times following the instructions but nothing worked. Need a folding video! Picture instructions are difficult to understand. Update: It took a few weeks but they found something to chew on, a metal ring attached to a water bottle, I found it rolled into a small metal ball for them to swallow! Exchanged for a new one and within a week they ripped off some black plastic seam covers and pieces were everywhere. I only let them sit for an hour, but as soon as they find a weak spot, they start chewing on it right away. Came back again, didn't seem confident at all with small bits to chew on. I was hoping for an alternative to the ugly metal cages. Just very disappointed but returned with no problems.
