I originally saw a video (video with the wrong part number) that said my 2018 Mazda CX-5 didn't need wires to connect directly to the battery me have ordered it. and found it had to be connected to the battery so i called curt support and they stated that the reason you need to connect to the battery is because the taillights are NOT supplying enough current, to light up the trailer. the lights. *** COMPLETELY SENSE *** Installation went well and all I had to do was walk along the door panel and through the existing bullet socket to the left of the brake pedal I removed the positive screw holding the battery terminal. to the clamp and the included yellow end of the black wire to the back of the screw, reinstalled the nut and tightened. I bought a tester for $5 to test the connection. Overall happy with a clean install!
