Review on KA-BAR Black Fighting Knife - Model 2-1211-6 by Nathan Skipper

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent knife at a very reasonable price

My first Ka-Bar and I am very happy with it. The blade out of the box is more than sharp enough (although not surgically sharp as some people might expect/want) and is evenly sharpened on both sides, making the blade easy to maintain. Cosmetically the knife is 100% smooth with a low gloss black finish on the blade, it is well balanced and fits my hand perfectly. Mine came with a black leather sheath which was initially very tight with a difficult to snap strap but loosens up really well with use and actually fits my needs well. A note on the scabbard: the belt loop is designed to fit a full width military service belt. Your average 1" to 1.5" wide leather belt that you wear with jeans sits loosely in it, allowing the knife to freely move up and down your thigh and slide front to back. This could be a problem. for those who are on horseback, rock climbing or scrambling over rough terrain. At the top of the sheath is a hole approximately 0.20" in diameter that you can thread a strap through to attach to an accessory loop on your BDUs or around your thigh so it doesn't go over your thigh, unless you're wearing a webbing sling, or cut the width of the belt vertically into the loop and pass a narrower belt through to position the sheath in the desired location. Overall the knife is a hell of a tool at a hell of a price and the leather sheath is well suited for those who prefer that style to their needs. One caveat: before purchasing this knife, be aware that this is NOT a small fixed blade camping or hunting knife. This is a full size military combat knife and sheath. Ka-Bar makes a nice shortened version of this knife that might be better suited for casual camping, day trips, etc.
