I have a 2017 Macbook so it only has a headphone jack and USB-C space for a charger. I had a similar hub without USB-C and had to unplug my second monitor when my MacBook needed to be charged. This completely solved my problem and I had no problems with it. I can charge my computer from the second display. The only downside I have is that I tried using it to connect my MacBook to an old TV (which didn't have screen casting capability) and couldn't stream Netflix. The sound worked but I couldn't watch the show on the TV - I'm not sure if the problem was with the hub, TV or HDMI cable.
