I've been buying a variety of styles of Minnetonka moccasins for over 20 years. They have always been well made and have lasted a long time. Then, about three years ago, the laces began to snap long before the rest of the moccasin wore out. In my experience, it was over after about 4 months, i.e. one month after the money was returned. By adjusting the length and tying the knot, the moccasin could be worn for a month or two, and then the end broke again, making the lace too short to tie. The only way out is to buy a new lace and use a lacing tool (one YouTube video uses paperclips) to pull the new lace through. If the laces are not broken in time, the seams on the sides will tear and begin to unravel, eventually rendering the moccasin unwearable. My closet is full of beautiful Minnetonka moccasins with broken laces. Let me stress that this has never happened before. The laces and stitching were just as strong as the rest of the moccasin. Someone at Minnetonka had to make the design decision to use cheaper materials. Maybe this is a good way to increase sales? My next moccasins will be from a different brand.
