If you're just starting out, this is the perfect pen for learning calligraphy (I know I've spent the last few weeks on this). Just master this and your work with a smaller pen will be amazing. If you're already into calligraphy, I hope you already have a more informed opinion than I do, but I see that experts and novices can have conflicting desires. Although the ink is dark enough, it's still thin enough that you can see the strokes on the paper if you look closely. This, as well as the wide tip, is very helpful when teaching yourself. Even if you forget to close the stylus, lose the stylus, or crush the nib too hard, it's not a problem as you get a dozen for a reasonable price. However, if you are an expert, you may only need them if you regularly do impromptu calligraphy in large print. The tips seem to lose their sharpness after a few to a dozen hours (although the first seemed to go quicker).
