What Consumer Reports Don't Say

I generally don't like long reviews but I highly recommend reading these. It seems reasonable for such an expensive vacuum cleaner. I've had the Miele C3 for a couple of weeks now and obsessively researched vacuum cleaners while my 2 year old and 4 month old sons slept before buying them. Like a stay-at-home mom with a little boy and a little boy who will soon be a toddler + 3,000 square feet of carpet, my vacuum is literally my life. It's an item in my house, like a chair or a table. My husband and I have had a Kenmore canister vacuum for about 7 years and it has been very durable. It still works. If your budget is over $500 I recommend Kenmore. However, Miele is much better. But of course you will pay for it. It's worth it. Consumer Reports is always my starting point when I want to buy an appliance, vacuum cleaner or whatever. After reading the reviews on Amazon. Tip: Pay $7 a month to access Consumer Reports reviews. When it comes to vacuum cleaners, Miele Marin takes first place in consumer reports. After doing my own research and then buying a Miele, I found that all in all this is a pretty accurate review, but important details were not included in the Miele vacuum cleaner consumer report ratings. The details are important enough that I was compelled to write this review. Miele Marin is of course a great vacuum cleaner. If you seldom, if ever, vacuum OR you don't mind the budget much (e.g. you don't mind having to shell out a few hundred bucks for additional attachments whether you can afford it or not), then you will definitely be happy with this vacuum as you probably don't care or even see how it's missing. The first thing to understand about Marin is that it is a Miele C3 vacuum cleaner. That said, the Marin's tank is called the C3 model, and ALL Miele C3 vacuums have the exact same tank, albeit in different colors. Miele also makes the C2 and C1 canisters, which are cheaper by law. But for the rest of my review, it's important to understand that Marin is C3. For those of you with young children, it's important to know that the advantage of the C3 is that the small jets are hidden in a compartment on the canister. The cheaper C2 stores the tips on the outside of the canister so you can never find your tips again because your kids will take them. If you have the opportunity to buy a vacuum cleaner from a local store, Mile, go there. How to really go there and not buy online. At Amazon, you don't skimp on Miele vacuum cleaners. First, the retail prices I encountered were often LOWER or EQUAL to Amazon's. Second, official dealers have 2 Miele C3 models better than Marin that only they can sell. The one I bought is called the "Homecare" C3, it costs the same as the Marin but comes with a few hundred dollars worth of extra tools/accessories. Including a flexible 2 foot grout tool that will change your life. To be clear, you can purchase this tool separately for use on Marin, but it is included with Homecare. The Homecare C3 also has the option to purchase just a few of the features you need, which of course is reflected in the lower price tag of $899 versus $1,099). Conversely, dealers are selling Marin's even better upgraded (and more expensive) C3 for around $1,499, which might interest you more. according to the homecare model - 10 years. And buying from a dealer has the obvious advantage that you can easily return a vacuum cleaner if you don't like it or want a different model. The most important thing to know about the Marin here at Amazon is that it's Miele's standard line of motorized attachments. In this case, the top of the line isn't necessarily better. Especially if you have small children who break the unbreakable and somehow pour water over everything. It features LED lights and electronic height adjustment. It's also a bit more understated, but not enough to make a difference. You probably don't want that top of the range motorized brush head and instead want the next level down, also a motorized brush head but with a manual pedal control and no light. In other words, no electronics. Your 2 year old pours something on it, drops it in the toilet or throws it down the stairs, it still works. On the other hand, the top-of-the-line electronic nozzle has maintenance problems caused by its electronics. This is from a reputable dealer. Fixing it also takes time. While the warranty is of course fully covered, reliability suffers as you can't vacuum and you have to take it to the dealer for repairs. In my opinion, the electronics just aren't worth the potential hassle or expense. But if you really want the best cleaning brush heads, it's available as an option on the home care model and comes standard with the $1,499 C3 model. Homecare is an electronic on/off and suction level control on the handle. We are all used to operating a cylinder vacuum cleaner in this way. But the standard Miele way is with buttons on the container itself and a switch on the handle that activates the motor on the brush head. You use your foot or even your wand to hit them. The controls on the grip are relatively new and, like the electronic accessories, can break and take longer to fix. So I don't think they're worth the extra cost or potential hassle, although they're obviously nice. Another thing to note if you're on a budget and see there are less expensive Miele C3s like the Calima is that Miele hasn't upgraded their C3 vacuums for some reason. This means that while all C3s are the same, you cannot, for example, buy a cheaper Calima C3 that doesn't come with a motorized attachment and then buy the motorized attachment separately. It does not attach to the wand and hose that comes with the Calima. You will also need to purchase a new wand and hose. It will cost you the difference in price between the Calima and the more expensive C3s like the Marin. That is why there are so many models of Miele vacuum cleaners with different prices. This is one of the reasons why I strongly recommend going through a dealer. If you've done a lot of research, you probably know that the very best carpet vacuums are a bunch of racks, like the budget-friendly Oreck, dear Kirby, Miele. upright or Kenmore pet upright. The problem with them is the lack of versatility and/or outliers (filtering). One idea I considered was getting a $699 Miele stand with the upright Hepa filter AND a cheaper $299 C1 for whatever I would use the attachments for. However, this still requires you to carry a heavy rack and a canister up and down the stairs. No thank you. And it's not that much better on carpet than it's worth. Also, I would like to add that the inexpensive Oreck is so effective on carpet and also light because it doesn't hold much in your pocket and has no attachments. Miele has excellent filter and cleaning performance but is also very heavy. Kenmore too. Kirby works best on carpets, but is not at all comfortable to use. So I kept going back to the Miele canister. And my Miele C3 Homecare cleans the carpet incredibly well. Which brings me to my last point. Make sure you buy a box of bags with your new Miele. Although he comes with one. You may think you won't need to replace it for a while, so just buy packs later. This almost certainly won't happen if you have a lot of carpet and your previous vacuum was a standard Kenmore, Shark, Hoover, etc. The reason for this is that the Miele is SO effective at cleaning AND filtering that you're likely to get clogged. The Miele bag is pretty quick with all that stuff that your current vacuum doesn't pick up from the carpet or furniture. it happened to me As a side note, I assume that the Miele is well suited for allergy sufferers and asthmatics. In summary, the Miele C3 is a phenomenal vacuum cleaner that is definitely worth the money. But you will get a better deal and more options from the vacuum shop/vendor.
