I have taken several blacksmithing classes over the past few decades and can trim hooves safely and handle emergencies. This kit makes a good replacement set for your good blacksmith tools, but its quality is second to none when compared to high-end toy rasps and wire cutters. We will keep this in the horse trailer, not as our permanent use set. The wire cutters work and will remove a bit of extra toe, but they've had a really rough time with my mustang cross. His hooves are like steel and require heavy duty wire cutters with a very sharp edge. However, they were good for the softer pony hoof wall. The rasp is good enough for quick touch-ups after a small crack or break from an accident. But then again, I struggled with that on mustang legs. So a functional set of farrier tools, but not something your real farrier uses every day.
