My carpet is 11 years old. Eleven years pets and children. He stinks. I shampooed it myself. I paid a professional to clean it. I sprayed with enzyme cleaner. I sprayed it with peroxide (it's solution dyed nylon so it doesn't discolor). It always smells musty and vaguely resembles urine when lying on the floor. I am planning to replace the carpet in a little over a year but wanted to be able to lie on the carpet! So I bought this material on the recommendation of a carpet company blog. The thing works! A bucket belonged to my living room (about 10 feet by 27 feet). The carpet smells noticeably less. However, it clogged my vacuum cleaner filter, so I would recommend either removing the vacuum cleaner filter or buying a cheap vacuum without a filter just to use with carpet deodorant.
