Review on HD W2H Converter Output Upscaling Adapter by Michael Nastanovich

Revainrating 3 out of 5

No video from HDMI to DVI-D

The converter looks pretty sturdy (not cheap plastic). The HDMI connector is rigid and requires little effort to connect, so I wouldn't mind having to add and remove it regularly. Also note that the HDMI converter and connector adds considerable length (maybe 4 inches) to the rear of the Wii console. The sound was great. I connected a 3.5mm plug to my external BOSE speakers and was happy with the output. On the other hand, I couldn't get the video to work. My Samsung SyncMaster E2420 monitor CANNOT see the Wii with this converter. The monitor only has two inputs, one DVI-D and one VGA, so for the life of my monitor I have always connected peripherals to it using an HDMI to DVI-D cable. Although my MacBook Air can connect to my monitor via a mini to HDMI cable connected to the HDMI end of an HDMI to DVI-D cable, and my Panasonic Blue Ray player via a HDMI port is connected to a HDMI port -DVI-D cable, this HD-W2H video converter does NOT allow me to play Wii via HDMI to DVI-D cable. This may be because the converter upscales from the Wii's 480p to my monitor's 1080p and simply can't pass the conversion through the HDMI to DVI-D cable. I'm giving it three stars because I can't guarantee the video quality, but the manufacturer was very quick to respond to my request for information and told me that the HDMI to DVI-D cable was the culprit. and the product is incompatible (although I still really don't understand why). Excellent customer service and reliable product; I really want everything to work for me. I had to buy a cheap used TV with composite connectors to play the Wii (cheaper than buying this converter).

Pros
  • Easy connection No power required
Cons
  • Useless features
