We have a 2 year old corgi and an 8 year old terrier mix and the terrier doesn't give a damn, he's still barking and it doesn't bother him, the corgi notices and comes down with it fine for a few days and then you get used to it or it doesn't matter, I don't know what, but it's ineffective until we turn it off and put it in for a couple of days and then we take it out again and change the setting, and it seems to work for a few more days, when we bring it back a few days later it still turns on so the battery life is at least a few days. In general, it works quite well on young dogs, but not on older dogs.
