Review on ELEGOO Nano V3.0 Board without USB Cable, CH340/ATmega+328P, Arduino Nano Compatible (Pack of 3) by Brinson Quarterman

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great price, with one small caveat.

These are good nano clones; definitely good quality. However, I think it would be a good idea for Elegoo to inform potential buyers of these 3 packages in the product description that the Arduino IDE must be properly configured to use the ATmega328P (the old bootloader, not the standard ATmega328P bootloader) to use. If you look in the user manual/tutorial there is no mention of this required setting, but it is mentioned in the FAQ that comes with the CH340 drivers. So be prepared to read boring technical texts from the Elegoo site, it unless you've read some colorful reviews here in this conversation about this issue. Overall this is a quality product but -1 star for the simple fact that the user manual doesn't mention this issue at all but goes on and on. talking about stuff that is either irrelevant to the task of setting up their brand's nano, or setting parameters that are actually already set according to their standard instructions, so reading some of them is a waste of time. One example I can refer to is the section asking the customer to install the Bridges library on page 14, which is a Linux specific library, so it's a bad tutorial and a waste of time if you're Mac or use Windows. Another example is page 24, which says you can set the serial monitor baud rate to the correct baud rate of 9600; The only problem is that they are completely wasting your time: Serial Monitor's baud rate is already set to 9600 by default. I like Elegoo and think the Chinese are smart people doing good things, but sometimes I find their technical manuals a bit sparse with relevant information in favor of less important details that aren't always helpful.

Pros
  • understandable also for the old ones
Cons
  • some little things
