Review on 🚴 Avid Shorty Ultimate Cantilever Brake - Rear by Tom Lantz

I bought both sets of these brakes for my cyclocross bike. The brakes are great, you should probably buy them. What's not great is the poor quality control of the saddle cable nipple (the metal mold at the end of the brake cable). The cables are out of tolerance, causing excessive friction in the barrel adjuster. This means that after an attempt to mount them with a slight pull, the cable nipple was completely jammed in the barrel adjuster (and thus was unusable). Go to your local bike shop and buy a replacement brake cable (for a road bike) and use that instead. This happened with both sets of brakes I had (front and rear bought completely separately at different times). The local bike shop said the part failed and they fixed it immediately with a new brake cable. Shame on you SRAM, inferior OEM cables that don't match your gear.
