Great brakes that are worth the price

These brakes are an expensive investment but worth every penny. Installation and configuration were not difficult. Braking performance is amazing and definitely better than cheaper models. I highly recommend these brakes, they are an excellent product.

Pros
  • Free for training purposes
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Like others, I've tried other brake kits and wasn't happy with the braking performance. Riding a fully loaded touring bike through terrain that was sometimes very hilly caused a few hectic moments. I decided the brakes weren't worth the price and bought the Shorty Ultimates. I finally have cantilever brakes that actually have some serious stopping power. We recommend.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • So-so

Best cyclocross brakes but tricky to set up

I love these brakes but I had trouble adjusting the rear brakes because there was some paint on one of the brake stays. This resulted in the brake not seating properly or returning to its original position. I adjusted the front brakes myself but took the bike to a shop to have the rear brakes adjusted. Now everything is running like clockwork and in two seasons of cyclocross I haven't had any problems.

clydesdale stop

These Swissstop brakes are deadly! Amazing stopping power. I am a 250lb rider on the All City Space Horse. The cantilever brakes that came with the bike were woefully inadequate, so I had my LBS Avid Single Digit 7 brakes installed with Travel Agents Solutions (the ones with brake cable reels). They were better, but the calipers were too long and I kept hitting the back when pedaling. They're perfect and they stop at a dime. Highly recommended.

Pros
  • Best in niche
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

Good Brakes - Cycling

I bought these to build a motocross bike, they are easy to install and look great. They work well with Shimano Ultegra levers. They seem to stop just as well as any Cantis I've ridden before. That's not as good as a good set of calipers. The levers can be adjusted from wide to narrow. They may have more stopping power in a wide configuration, but I haven't tried them extensively. They were on some pro bikes a few years ago so I figured they must be pretty good. I'm giving four stars because…

Pros

Cons
  • Questionable Purchase for Seniors

I bought both sets of these brakes for my cyclocross bike. The brakes are great, you should probably buy them. What's not great is the poor quality control of the saddle cable nipple (the metal mold at the end of the brake cable). The cables are out of tolerance, causing excessive friction in the barrel adjuster. This means that after an attempt to mount them with a slight pull, the cable nipple was completely jammed in the barrel adjuster (and thus was unusable). Go to your local bike shop and

It doesn't get any better!

I use these brakes on a road bike optimized for travel. These are the best cantilever brakes I've ever used. They're easy to set up and fairly powerful, although the pads may not be as good as the Kool Stop pads I've seen in reviews. I have used these brakes to replace Shimano V-brakes which worked well but were difficult to get right. The need to keep the pads close to the rim with V-brakes also made tire removal more difficult. These brakes are adjustable for narrow or wide stance. The front…

Pros
  • Top marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • No automatic brakes
